FSDS is a great program, and you can get stuff done with it fairly quickly, since it has a lot of very good tutorials built into it and walks you through a lot of the stuff that requires a bit more tinkering when doing stuff with G-Max. You can find G-Max as a download too.A more sensible option in terms of how quick you can learn it if you are not massively familiar with 3D modeling (although not free), would be Abacus' FS Design Studio, which can also be used to create aircraft for both FS9 and FSX. You can find G-Max on the CD/DVD for many versions of FS (although usually only the 'pro' versions of FS).
But it does have a lot of tutorials available for it, including some that are built in. It will probably take a couple of weeks of practice with it to get reasonably capable with it, assuming you're fairly okay with that sort of thing. But, it has a fairly steep learning curve, so don't expect to be churning out a masterpiece in a matter of days. G-Max is often used by people to create aircraft models and scenery for FS9 and FSX (both commercial stuff and freeware). You've got a few options.The cheapest option is to use G-Max, which is a free, chopped down version of the commercial 3D modeling program, 3DS-Max.
